International Baccalaureate (IB)
The International Baccalaureate (IB) is a globally recognized, nonprofit education program known for its rigorous, student-centered curriculum. IB programs help students grow academically, emotionally, and socially while preparing them for success in a global world. IB programs focus on critical thinking, academic challenge, cultural understanding, and multilingualism.
Admission to IB high schools often requires students to meet specific academic eligibility criteria.
HISD Offers Four IB Programmes:
IB campuses go through a thorough approval process, including teacher training, curriculum review, community interviews, and a site visit. Once authorized, campuses are re-evaluated every five years by the International Baccalaureate Organization.
- Primary Years Programme (PYP) – for students in Pre-K through 5th grade
- Middle Years Programme (MYP) – for students in 6th through 10th grade
- Diploma Programme (DP) – for 11th and 12th grade students who want advanced courses and the chance to earn college credit by scoring a 4 or higher on IB exams
- Career-related Programme (CP) – for 11th and 12th grade students interested in career and technical pathways; students may also earn college credit with qualifying IB exam scores
